A month or so ago we hired Jess to be our model for Friday Photo School. She was so much fun to work with and she did an awesome job. I found out that she had an interest in working on the other side of the camera too, mostly because she has three adorable children that she loves to photograph. So we decided that she should bring them back and we would see what we could do with them. Her oldest daughter Katie was so easy to work with and we ended up with quite a few really nice images. This young lady knew just how she wanted to be photographed and was totally at home in front of the camera. As a result, it was almost too easy to end up with this beautiful portrait of her. For the equipment geeks this is an Elichrom Octabank main light and a Creative Light strip bank with grids for a hair light. A beautiful “two light” portrait.
All in all, we had a lot of fun. There were kids running everywhere and it was all out bedlam for a while. But, we took our time and gave them their space and one by one, we finished the session. This is not my area of expertise, but I like being stretched to see what I can do. Fun subjects, a great assistant (thanks Don!) and moms that worked with us to make it happen made it possible. I think you can tell that there is no substitute for great lights, accurate metering and a rock solid tripod to make images that look this good. Thanks kids!
